All appraisal reports are prepared pursuant to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, effective July 1, 2001. Appraisers, along with all providers of personal financial services are now required by federal law to inform their clients of the policies of the firm with regard to the privacy of client “nonpublic personal information”. As professionals, we understand that your privacy is very important to you whether it be about your clients, inventions, trade secrets, know-how, software, databases, customer lists, consumer names, addresses, social security numbers, account information, and other customer or customer specific data deemed to be “Nonpublic personal information” under California law or Federal law.
In the course of performing an appraisal assignment, we may collect what is known as "nonpublic personal information" about our clients, lenders, buyer(s) or seller(s) of the property that is the subject matter of an appraisal report. This information is used to facilitate the appraisal services that we provide to you and may include the information provided to us by you directly or received by us from others in the course of preparing your report. Examples of “nonpublic personal information” are loan applications, real estate purchase contracts and information provided to us directly by you telephonically.
We restrict access to “nonpublic personal information” obtained in the course of our engagement with our clients to nonaffiliated third parties, except as deemed necessary or as required by law to facilitate the appraisal transaction on an as needed basis. An example would be the necessary disclosure to our employees, appraisers and in certain situations to unrelated third party consultants who need to know the information to assist us in providing appraisal services to you.
